Local Community
There
are a number of ways in which we make positive contributions to our
local community helping us to ensure that we are a good neighbour and
resident within the Borough of Islington.
· In 2006 we
became a member of the Islington Climate Change Partnership run by
Islington Council – working together to reduce the Borough of
Islington’s carbon footprint by 15% by 2010
· Work with the
Children’s Scrap Project which collects our usable waste and
distributes it to local schools to use in their art projects
·
Donating furniture and materials to a local children’s charity, Toffee
Park Adventure Playground, rather than skipping it. So far we have
donated desks, chairs, paint and glassware, two Christmas trees from
our Country Living Christmas Fair and numerous other items that are no
longer wanted. Toffee Park is always greatly appreciative and recycles
everything we give to them. They put great emphasis on recycling to the
children at Toffee Park. We are also in the process of installing a new
fully equipped kitchen for them. In addition to this, MA Associates
Worldwide, one of our tenants based within the Business Design Centre,
have very kindly donated two entire football kits to Toffee Park’s
football teams
· Business Design Centre invested in Ashcan, a
unique portable cylinder-shaped ashtray to be distributed to staff,
tenants and visitors. Identifying that the smoking ban would have a big
effect on local environment, with cigarette litter set to dramatically
increase, we wanted to encourage smokers to extinguish and dispose of
their cigarettes in an environmentally friendly manner
The Morris Charitable Trust
The
Morris Charitable Trust was established in 1989 to provide support for
charitable causes. It was founded by the Morris Family who own the
Business Design Centre Group. The Group includes the Business Design
Centre, Upper Street Events, Citycentral Estates and City North
Islington. The companies, all based in the Islington area, contribute a
proportion of their annual profits to facilitate the Trust's charitable
activities. The Trust is run by a board of Trustees who provide their
services on a voluntary basis.
The objective
of the Trust is to promote charitable causes, in particular, to relieve
the deprived, sick and aged and advance education for the public
benefit. The Trust supports national and local community projects.
Particular emphasis is placed on alleviating social hardship and
deprivation and, because of the Morris Family's business location,
supporting charitable causes within the community of the London Borough
of Islington. Urban regeneration, health care, the elderly,
education, and community uplifting causes are all examples of the
general criteria that the Morris Charitable Trust looks for when
considering applications.
