The Business Design Centre has teamed up with Dyson to introduce their new Airblade hand driers into the venue.

Peter Clenshaw, Exhibition Services Director comments,

“We are very excited to be working with Dyson on this project.  The revolutionary technology will not only reduce our energy consumption significantly in this area but the Airbaldes are also reflect the BDC’s desire to introduce innovative and design-led products within the venue.  This partnership with Dyson is representative of the BDC’s on going commitment to energy conservation and desire to constantly improve the venue. The unveiling of the new driers will fittingly be at the New Designers 2007 exhibition on the 4th July.”

The average restroom hand driers will dry an average of 200 pairs of hands a day. With the new Airblades fitted into all toilets the Business Design Centre will reduce their energy usage in this area by a staggering 81%. This is due to the combination of the revolutionary Dyson Digital Motor and the reduction of time used when drying hands.

One of the BDC’s main corporate objectives is to implement an energy efficiency strategy which will ensure the supply of efficient and environmentally friendly energy over the long term. This includes the introduction of motion sensor lighting in all toilets and most offices, and the internal promotion of different energy saving initiatives that staff can take responsibility for.

The venue also plans to increase its total waste recycling from 3% to 27% by the end of 2007/8 and has signed up to the Islington Climate Change Partnership that involves working with the council and other businesses in the borough to reduce Islington’s carbon footprint by 15% by 2010.
