“Our staff get a huge sense of satisfaction from seeing their mentees develop and progress in their chosen careers.”
The Business Design Centre (BDC) has always had a strong focus on its work in the community. As a Company we are always striving to minimise our environmental impact by implementing effective recycling and sustainability procedures, together with leaving a positive legacy within the local community through various projects and schemes, in conjunction with the Morris Charitable Trust.
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
The BDC encourages its staff to give back to the community, an example of this is the business mentoring scheme which the BDC has been involved with since 2011. The initiative is a year-long one to one mentoring scheme for local out of work people aged between 18-24. The aim for each mentor (BDC Staff Member) to work with a mentee to help them succeed in employment, education or enterprise. We offer this opportunity to all of our staff who get a huge sense of achievement from seeing their mentees develop and progress in their chosen careers.
In addition, our senior management team take part in mock interviews with both the scheme's mentees and also students from the local City and Islington College. This is to help young people in the community who may be lacking work experience in their quest to find employment.
In addition we run two annual programmes for two Events Management students, in their placement year, to work alongside our conference and exhibition departments. For more information on these or to apply please see our careers section.
Our Chairman and CEO are also heavily involved with the boards of Islington Giving and the Angel BID respectively, while our staff also contribute by getting involved in volunteering from various local projects such as cleaning up Toffee Park and organising fund raising events.
