Putting People First at the BDC
It’s been a great year for the Business Design Centre; celebrating 30 years of fantastic events being held at the venue. It’s been great year too for celebrating the successes of the longstanding team of staff who operate the venue every day. From the Venue Services department winning the AEO Award for Venue Team of the Year in April, to the Conference Team receiving the award for Best Venue Customer Service for over 600 delegates at the Conference Awards in July, to finally picking up the London Venue Award’s, Best London Venue Customer Service last month, the in house team working on the events are really on a roll.
With over 70% of the people working at the BDC having been with the company over five years and most of those managing the events themselves closer to the ten year mark, it’s not hard to believe that it’s a great place to work. The nature of the business is such that the company really takes care of its team, ensuring they feel valued motivated and supported – a feeling not lost on the event clients.
Hot off the heels of the recent award wins, Business Design Centre has now been recognised as an Investor in People at a Gold standard. Investors in People is the international standard for people management, defining what it takes to lead, support and manage people effectively to achieve sustainable results.
Commenting on the award, Dominic Jones, BDC, Chief Executive, said:
“Over the past 30 years the company has very successfully managed maintain the values associated with a family business. I feel our personal touch is where we really excel. We emphasize this strongly through our style of management and it is most definitely recognised by our clients who often comment on the warmth and professionalism of our staff and the venue.”
Business Design Centre’s employees citied the company values and supportive leadership as some of the most important attributes of working at the venue. Hayley Constable has been employed since 2008, and comments;
“I’ve been at the BDC for over 8 years and I believe that I have been offered a supportive environment to develop and grow. The recent middle management training programme helped me take the next step in my career and I look forward to using this platform to progress in my current role. The family nature at the BDC is what I love most – we work hard together and celebrate wins as a team."
