12 Blogs of Xmas: Day 1 ~ Emma Clarke

01.12.2016 12 Blogs of Xmas: Day 1 ~ Emma Clarke

After recently hosting another successful Country Living Christmas, we’re starting to feel rather festive here at the BDC. We’re looking forward to taking part in another Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children on 16th December and gearing up for all the Christmas parties. To get you in the festive spirit we’re kicking off our 12 Blogs of Christmas, interviewing a member of staff everyday over the course of 12 days to get to know our staff and contractors a little more, find out their Christmas traditions and the things they love most about this time of year.

To get the ball rolling it’s Emma Clarke our Venue Sales Manager…

How long have you been working at the venue?

I’ve worked here for 6 years and 2 months but who’s counting! It’s gone at the speed of light but I still love coming to work every day. It’s great being able to work with your friends.

Who is the most festive person in your office and how do you celebrate?

Me! I’m definitely the most festive person in the Sales Team. From today, 1st December, each member of the team is going to bring in one decoration every day throughout December so that by the 25th the Sales Office will be turned into Santa’s Grotto! We have lots of networking events around Christmas, as well as our own BDC Christmas parties where we invite our contractors to celebrate Christmas with us, as well as toasting another great year.

What’s your favourite local spot to get you feeling festive?

Angel Central just around the corner from the BDC put on some great Christmas markets this time of year. Fingers crossed last year’s reindeer will return!

What’s your favourite Christmas Tradition?

My brother and I still wake up before my mum and dad! Despite being 32 and 28, they make us wait until 8am where we then jump on my parent’s bed. I’ve still got the role of Santa’s Elf handing out everyone’s presents and we spend the morning drinking bucks fizz whilst unwrapping our gifts.

What is your favourite Christmas food, film and song?

Pigs in blanket, Elf, All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey.

What does the New Year have in store for the Sales Team?

We have lots coming up this year. We have new shows coming in – some of which are under wraps at the moment. A couple of really exciting shows we have in the New Year are the Comic Convention in August as well as hosting a key sporting conference. We are having one of our most successful years in conferences and with our new team members successfully embedded we will be pushing forward to do even better in 2017-2018. It’s going to be a busy busy year!

Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?

I completed the Angel to Angel bike ride in 2014 (pictured) and ran the London Marathon in 2015. I’m hoping in 2017 I’ll be able to take part in another amazing charity challenge which would maybe be climbing a mountain or conquering a desert.

Find out more about our staff members and their favourite Christmas traditions in our other 12 Blogs of Christmas.
