12 Blogs of Xmas: Day 6 ~ Onward Display

08.12.2016

On the 6th day of Christmas, Luke and Jake from our on-site exhibition printers, Onward Display join the #12blogsofXmas. Let’s find out how they plan to celebrate this festive season…

How long have you been working at the venue?

Jake: ‘I’ve been at the BDC for 3 years and I just love the ‘buzz’ here, the venue is such an excellent place to work. I thoroughly enjoy my job and I hope to work here for many more years.’

Luke:  ‘I’ve only worked here for 6 months so I’m still ‘finding my feet’. That being said, I can already sense a real community among employees, we all genuinely get on and there’s a great atmosphere. I enjoy coming to work every day.’

How does your team celebrate?

Jake: ‘Christmas arrives early to the Onward Display office due to the planning for The Country Living Christmas Fair. Although this is in November, you can’t help but get excited! We are all also looking forward to our traditional Christmas Eve get together to install the graphics for the Liberties sale. We usually dress up as elves - the 25 of us are an absolute sight to behold! Once this is finished, we all go for a well-deserved beer in the Clachan - a local pub and retire to our family homes ready for the big day.’

Luke: ‘This year Onward are going to MEATliquor on Upper Street to try out their new Christmas menu. After stuffing our bellies with Christmas goodies, we are going to waddle over to the Hope and Anchor for a few mulled wines and hopefully catch some live music. The highlight of the Christmas period for everyone in the office is definitely secret  Santa. This is taken very seriously. Each year the worst present is voted for and a fine is given to the least thoughtful gift giver!’

What’s your favourite local spot to get you feeling festive?

Luke: ‘Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland in my opinion is the best festive event in London and I make sure I visit this every year. I also love the Chapel Market in Angel. This is a great market all year but is extra special at Christmas time.’

Jake: ‘I do most of my Christmas shopping on Oxford Street. I also love going here for their light turn-on - this is really when Christmas begins for me. I actually really enjoy Christmas shopping, even if I do always go a little over-the-top with the amount I buy!’

What is your favourite Christmas tradition? Film, song, food?

Jake: ‘The Muppet’s Christmas Carol. I like to think it sends a message of what Christmas is all about - not all about the gifts but instead spending time with family. My favourite Christmas food is chestnut stuffing. My mum makes the best kind and I can never get enough of it!’

Luke: ‘Pigs-in-blankets has to be the best Christmas food, it’s one of those things you’ll only ever eat at Christmas. And Bing Crosby – White Christmas is my favourite song, it’s an old classic!’

What does the New Year have in store for Onward Display?

Luke: ‘We have a really exciting year coming up with some fantastic shows to look forward to. Our team are especially looking forward to the Bubble show. They are great fun to work for due to their creative flare when it comes to signage.’

Jake: ‘Onward Display always have the same outlook to the New Year. We want to improve year-on-year, ensuring we are aligned with industry trends and grow even further as a company. This is something we again hope to take forward into 2017.’
