Happy New Year from the BDC!

2013 flew by at the BDC and we are now preparing for what’s to come in 2014. To celebrate the New Year, we have been in touch with members of the BDC team as well as our tenants to discuss their favourite events at the venue. With the BDC hosting over 300 events a year, they certainly had a lot to choose from!

It’s definitely appropriate to start with the tenant who has been with us the longest, Georgina Clark from Silent Gliss. Being situated in the venue for over 20 years, Georgina has seen plenty of exhibitions and conferences pass through our venue giving her a great insight on how the venue works.  Here’s what Georgina had to say when we asked which event she’ll be looking out for this year…

Well, the Art Fair they are setting up is my favourite show as it means I get my fix without having to leave the building and visit all the art galleries in London and beyond.  This long running event is part of my yearly routine as it kick starts every new year and so enjoy looking at the wonderful pieces they have year in, year out.  The fantastic painting at the top of the stairs caught my eye last year and I took a quick shot of it on my phone and showed it to Jack Morris when I saw the BDC had purchased it.  Same good taste! Ha!”

We then approached Emma Clarke our Conference Sales Manager who has been working and running events at the BDC for over three years now.  Here’s what Emma had to say…

“My favourite event at the BDC has to be The Public Relation Show organised by CIPR. The organiser has a great vision for the event, therefore creating a successful live event day. For me, the branding was a particular highlight of the event as it brought the space to life and fulfilled their key objective given their target audience.”

Another member of our Conference Team, Kate Simpson has seen over six years of shows at the venue, working with most of the organisers and many exhibitors herself and explains why she likes the ever popular Country Living…

“I love the Country Living Christmas Fair, which I go to every year to pick up some great presents. It really gets me in the festive spirit when the venue starts to smell of the orange and spices that one of the exhibitors sells. I would definitely advise popping into our Gallery Hall which is home to the food stands; there’s usually everything from Sloe Gin, to Cheese and Christmas pudding!”

Finally, and last but not least, we put the question to our favourite concierge Ray Alcock. Ray has been working at the front of house for over 15 years and has seen plenty of events in action…

“The New Designers Show is my favourite which is held annually over 2 weeks in July and serves an important function. Most of the principal colleges and universities participate. What makes this prestigious show iconic is that it gives graduating students a wonderful opportunity to showcase their work to some of the most influential leaders in the various sphere of design. The awarding of prizes further enhances their sense of achievement, as well as being invaluable for networking.”
