Happy 30th New Designers!

12.04.2015

One of the BDC’s longest standing events is this year celebrating its 30thedition. New Designers run by the team at Upper Street Events has been delivering new generations of emerging talent straight from university to exhibit their work to crowds of industry professionals for three decades. With over 3,000 graduates in attendance each year – the calibre of the visitors attracted to the event is justifiably unrivalled.

In addition to the exhibition itself New Designers brings over fifty designers in their first year of business offering a platform to showcase themselves in ‘One Year On’.  Rheanna Lingham co-founder of Shoreditch-based boutique Luna and Curious is the new curator of this feature, which is an integral part of the event.

The show, split across two weeks provides an opportunity for university leavers who have studied all areas of design:

Part 1: 24th – 27th June (Awards Preview 24th June)

  • Textiles & Fashion
  • Costume Design
  • Jewellery & Precious Metalwork
  • Ceramics & Glass
  • Contemporary Design Crafts
  • One Year On

Part 2: 1st – 4th July (Awards Preview 1st July)

  • Furniture
  • Product & Industrial Design
  • Spatial Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Illustration
  • Animation
  • Motion & Digital Arts
  • One Year On

The most innovative graduates from these disciplines will also compete in the New Designers awards which are supported by leading brands and organisations. Those selected for these awards are given vital support in the industry as they begin their careers and have been shown to have an immensely positive impart on the careers of the winners. The Business Design Centre sponsors an award in each of the weeks, CEO Dominic Jones comments;

“It’s been fantastic to support the New Designers awards over many many years. The help the graduates receive is invaluable and is a great assistance in furthering a young designer’s career, which is very rewarding for us to be included. When you see some of the exhibiting designers a year later at One Year On, it’s wonderful to hear about the innovation shown in their first year out of university. We hope to see New Designers continue their success for many years to come!”

To celebrate 30 years of success, New Designers is inviting its Alumni to get in touch by using #ND30yrs to share what the show means to them and where they are now.
