Our Security Team at the BDC is focused on making your trip to the Business Design Centre and the local area safe for all, including Tenants, Visitors, Staff, Organisers and Contractors.

When visiting the Business Design Centre, our number one priority is for you to have a safe and secure experience. For this reason, we implement a range of security measures to ensure that our team and building are prepared for emergencies, including:

  • 24/7 security
  • CCTV cameras around the building
  • Security patrols
  • Regular bag searches

Please be aware that pickpockets operate in the area, targeting mobile phones. Always be vigilant and don’t leave your mobile phone in open pockets or easy to reach places.

We also operate in close partnership with our local emergency services and provide frequent training to staff to ensure that they can meet the needs of our guests should an emergency arise.

You are encouraged to take an active role in safeguarding both yourselves and any personal property you might bring into the venue. We run several crime prevention and personal safety initiatives with the local Police Service, so if you require any such advice, please contact us.

Emergency Contacts

In case of emergency, you can call 999 for the Police, Fire or Ambulance services. The non-emergency number for the Police is 101.

If you have any security, related concerns please do not hesitate to contact the BDC in house Security team at the front desk in the building on 0207 288 6475 or our Head of Security:

What can I do to help?

Security is everyone’s responsibility. Please tell our security and event staff if you notice anything suspicious while visiting our venue, including unattended packages and vehicles or someone behaving in a suspicious manner.

Should you find a suspect package, please notify Security immediately by using the red (emergency) telephone handsets located in the stairwells throughout the venue. Do not use your mobile phone.

Suspicious packages must be treated with extreme caution and should not be touched. Move yourself and any other person away from the area but make sure you can direct security to its location.

Follow the instructions of members of Security and Fire Marshals who you will be able to identify.

When you arrive at the venue, please acquaint yourself with the emergency exits, take note of the emergency telephones around the building, which have red handsets, and the general layout of our facilities. Any member of our in-house Security team will be more than happy to help you with this or any other information you might need.

If a fire alarm sounds, please do head to your nearest fire exit and too an assembly point. Fire Marshalls and Security will be on hand to direct and help you if needed.

The current UK threat level is SEVERE, this means that it is more important than ever for event organisers and businesses to do their part in keeping customers and the public safe.

We are working with the Counter Terrorism Policing to help keep everyone safe, by supporting their summer campaign and encouraging the public to stay alert and report anything that doesn’t feel right to security.

You can play your part by trusting your instincts, and if you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security. Our teams will take every report seriously. You won’t be wasting their time.

Here are some quick tips to help you have a safe and enjoyable time:

    • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks and measures
    • Be patient with security checks. It might seem inconvenient, but they are in place to help you.
    • Keep it simple and minimise what you carry. Fewer bags to search will speed up entry.
    • Stay alert and look out for each other. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security. Don’t leave it to someone else.
    • Don’t leave bags unattended. Never agree to look after a stranger’s bag, no matter how genuine they seem.
    • If there is an incident, listen to staff and any announcements.

In an emergency, always call 999.

Whilst the national threat level remains Severe, fortunately, incidents of terror attacks are rare. Despite this, we have to be aware they do happen and so we must try to prepare for any eventuality. The Security Services work hard to keep us safe and have produced general advice for us to follow, should the unthinkable happen.
