Head of Marketing

Business Design Centre (BDC) is a B Corp Certified organisation based in the heart of the London Borough of Islington. The venue is a multi-purpose trade centre with a combination of exhibitions, conferences and events alongside a portfolio of showrooms and office space. The BDC has a long history of supporting its people and the community in which it is based as well working to improve its impact on the environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the BDC team as Head of Marketing, where the core role is to holds ultimate responsibility for the organisations marketing activities and oversees the development and delivery of the marketing strategy for the business. Direct reports include the Marketing Executive.

Main Activities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the marketing strategy for the BDC; for new and existing products or services to promote awareness of the company’s business activities.
  • Work with other senior executives in the development and execution of the overall business plan; identifying new business opportunities ensuring that relevant plans are put in place to support them as well as ensuring new ventures are on brand.
  • Deliver reporting to parent companies through weekly and monthly requests, ensuring relevant statistics and tracking data is in line with agreed KPIs, approving any content shared.
  • Create opportunities and promote sponsorship, branding and other marketing packages to generate and increase revenue for the BDC’s marketing function, with the support of the Marketing Executive.
  • Set and control the annual marketing budget, allocating against resources and monitoring changes in spending. Measure and evaluate ROI on appropriate spending in order to develop future strategies.
  • Work closely with the BDC sales team; enabling them to meet their commercial objectives by providing them with suitable tools, materials and presentations as well as supporting their sales missions with appropriate campaigns and follow up communications.
  • Promote the business through relevant PR comms, new stories and through the completion of entries to relevant industry awards for the venue, its team and efforts to include key pillars of the content strategy.
  • Oversee management of the BDC social channels to develop the BDC’s online community, improving reputation and recognition. Guide the daily activities of the Marketing Executive, responsible for the maintenance of the company’s social channels and digital presence including the website and any external website listings for the venue and venue space.
  • Approve the production and review of content for the company’s online presence, email campaigns, editorial design and overseeing the company’s publications, ensuring that the BDC’s online presence is maintained in line with SEO best practices.
  • Undertake ongoing analysis of the competitive environment and consumer trends to ensure that the BDC is operating in line with industry standards and where possible implement new activities where resources allow.
  • Actively build key relationships, networking with relevant industry counterparts at AEO/AEV meetings and other opportunities such as the Festival of Marketing and those applicable to the event industry.
  • Negotiate with media agencies and promotional companies, securing agreements on the production of promotional materials and in running campaigns, to include contra agreements with relevant industry partners.
  • Responsible for addressing feedback and complaints as also received on social media, through the website and via feedback forms. Ensure any complaints are resolved and managed for a positive outcome.
  • Proactively contribute to the improvement of venue facilities and services for all stakeholders – with a particular focus on digital and branding operations.
