From the warm smiles of our front-of-house staff who create a welcoming atmosphere the moment you walk through the door, to the creativity and skill of our culinary team crafting some of Angel’s most unforgettable dishes, every person plays a vital role in making our workplace truly special.

Each team member has a story worth sharing, and together, they create an environment that’s not only enjoyable to work in but also inspiring to be part of.

Today we are introducing a familiar face, Luke, our Operations Director and Property Lettings Manager. Luke has been here for nearly 17 years and looks after our showrooms and offices here in the building as well as our car park. We spoke to Luke about some of his favourite moments, where he started and a bit about himself. Read more below.

How did you start at the BDC?

I started as an accounts assistant, straight from 6th form. I sent my CV to a recruitment company and within a week and a half, I had my first job and the rest is history.

What job roles have you held throughout your BDC journey?

From starting out as an accounts assistant and studying AAT, I progressed within the accounts department to Credit Controller, Assistant Management Accountant and Management Accountant. I was then offered the chance to shadow Philip Morris, who was heading up the Car Park at that time and I eventually took over that role when Philip retired and became (in conjunction with my accounting roles) Account Manager (Upper Street Car Park a.k.a. USCP). After continuing to develop my knowledge of the parking role, coupled with the accounting knowledge, I was awarded the role of Operations Director (USCP). Finally, when the opportunity emerged, I amalgamated Operations Director (USCP) with Property Lettings Manager, bringing all property aspects of the business together.

What has been the highlight of your time at the BDC?

It was still in my early years of being at the BDC, I was asked to introduce the then Chairman, Jack Morris, at the 25th Anniversary of the business, in front of a very large crowd. It was extremely nerve-wracking and out of my comfort zone, but it was that very development that has given me the confidence to progress through the BDC and was a very special experience.

What is the best advice you have ever recieved?

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

And now, a bit about you…

How would you spend your ideal weekend?

Heading to Selhurst Park Stadium to watch the mighty Palace (Crystal Palace Football Club) of course!

Any hobbies we should know about?

I am a huge film buff.

What's your favourite place to eat in Islington?

Frederick’s is a hard restaurant to beat in Islington, the staff and food are exemplary.

What's your most memorable trip?

My trip to New York, Nashville and Miami was to date my favourite holiday.

Over the coming months we will be introducing more of the team, getting to know some new and also longstanding faces.
